The Boston Globe Advertising team is seeking an entrepreneurial sales -driven, business development executive to help build out our Health & Science vertical. In this role, you will report to the General Manager of Health & Science, representing Boston Globe’s full advertising and branded product suite to agencies and brands in a specific vertical. You will work hand in hand with our marketing and events team to pitch integrated programs. You will collaborate across internal teams, from audience development to editorial, and build a strong local media network that increases the opportunity for our brand partners.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the charge in a specific vertical, hitting your annual revenue target goals.

• Develop a robust sales pipeline that meets and fulfills the revenue targets and margin profiles.

• Establish a deep understanding of Boston Globe’s products, ideate strategic solutions based on client briefs, and put together proposal responses.

• Serve as liaison between internal teams across business and editorial to build comprehensive events programs.

• Spearhead a local media network that increases the reach and opportunity for our local brand partners.

 

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 Years Experience in Media Sales Role:

You should be able to identify the top digital advertisers in your specific vertical and understand how to develop sales packages and solutions for these leader advertisers. You should have strong client management skills and be able to position the Boston Globe digital brands effectively in the marketplace. Experience in the biotech/pharma industry is preferred, but not mandatory.

  • Digital Sales Product Knowledge:

Should understand key digital ad performance metrics and products, CPM, retargeting, behavioral targeting, non-display products (content marketing, video, sponsorship), and client performance reporting requirements. You should be able to work with Ad Ops in developing client reporting functions and performance metrics. You should understand how to position the Globe vs. Ad Networks, FB/Google, and other digital alternatives. You should understand how to sell brand, but in a digitally-focused environment.  Experience in selling branded content is a plus.

  • Sales Skills:

Will need to be able to manage your own book of business. In other words, you will need to carry your own quota; and be able to manage an account list directly for major accounts. Traditional client management and sales skill apply.

  • Ability to Collaborate with Product Teams:

Will need to work closely with the content and product team in the development of client-facing solutions, establish relationships with marketers and agencies and key contacts in the industry, and have a deep interest in local media and the evolving media space and eagerness to develop innovative solutions

This position will start as a remote position but, following the office’s 2022 reopening plan, will be located in the Boston headquarters.
