We’re looking for someone who sees fresh angles to storylines everywhere, is skilled at cultivating sources, and reports with speed and confidence on topics that readers care about. The ideal candidate is an ambitious, enterprising writer with strong news judgment who will approach accountability coverage of the arts with the drive and focus of a hard-news reporter. You’ll stay in close contact with the Globe’s arts critics, and get out into the community to develop sources and pitches that promote a deep understanding of Boston’s art scene and other important arts communities in New England. You’re someone who keeps up with the latest in visual arts, music, film, theater, dance, television, comedy, books, and pop culture; has strong digital acumen and knowledge of SEO and social platforms; and is comfortable sharing your journalism on a variety of platforms.

  • Develop, pitch, and report stories on Boston’s world-class arts institutions, the leaders behind them, the forces shaping them, and their impact on the city and state.
  • Keep tabs on the wider New England arts landscape and news and trends of importance to our readers.
  • Write newsy dailies, as well as features on emerging trends, artists, and initiatives our readers haven’t discovered yet. We’re looking to be the first to tell these stories.
  • Collaborate with Living/Arts editors and the Globe’s audience team to reach new readers and tell stories that surprise, inform, and engage.
  • Possess a willingness to adapt; be committed to creating an inclusive work environment.

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a journalist for a major market or publication
  • Ability to write clean, accurate, compelling copy on deadline
  • The skills to write with depth, creativity, and style, and juggle daily stories along with more ambitious enterprise and features.
  • A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with an inquisitive mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
