7-8 Years Experience in Digital Sales Management Role: The Director of Digital Sales for Boston.com, should bring 7-10 years of experience in sales management. They should be able to identify the top 100 digital advertisers in the greater Boston market and understand how to develop sales packets and solutions for these leader advertisers. They should have strong client management skills and be able to position Boston.com and other Boston Globe digital brands effectively in the marketplace. The Director of Digital Sales should be able to manage other digital sales managers, manage the CRM system, sales funnels, and meet monthly sales targets.
Digital Sales Product Knowledge: The Director of Digital Sales should understand key digital ad performance metrics and products, CPM, retargeting, behavioral targeting, non-display products (content marketing, video, sponsorship), and client performance reporting requirements. They should be able to work with Ad Ops in developing client reporting functions and performance metrics. They should understand how to position Boston.com vs. Ad Networks, FB/Google, and other digital alternatives. They should understand how to sell brand, but in a digitally-focused environment.
Sales Skills: The Director of Digital Sales will need to be able to manage his or her own book of business. In other words, they will need to “carry their own bag” and be able to manage an account list directly for major accounts. Traditional client management and sales skill apply.
Ability to Collaborate with Product Teams: The Director of Digital Sales will need to work closely with the content and product teams in the development of client-facing solutions.
